Pilgrimage, a very old concept, is a journey in search of self and moral belief. It has a newer version these days known as medical tourism or wellness tourism, where people travel to other parts of world in search of health. Infact, medical tourism is not a new concept. Its just, the trend which has changed these days. Earlier people used to travel to the developed nation, but now developing countries are the hot destination. Less cost, cutting edge technology, good connectivity with decreasing language barrier has upped the ante in favour of such places.

Affordable health care services in expirenced hands is a boon for patients. Patients usually seek services for surgical and cosmetic procedures. A major chunk of people comprise from countries like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bhutan and Africa who seek the medical procedures not available in their own country or are lookimg for experienced hands. And then comes people from developed nation who fly down here to cut the expenditure on surgical procedures or to beat the long waiting time given to them for elective procedure.  Easy availability of newer drugs and availability of many over the counter drugs has made life easier for visiting patients. Some of these drugs are available with prescription only in other countries.

India is fastly emerging as one of the best place for dermatological and cosmetological procedures. India has captured the eye of global health industry with not only the cost effectiveness but also with vastly experienced  doctors working with best of equipments with all the latest guidelines and procedures. LASERS ( done for skin tightening, skin resurfacing, skin rejuvenation, skin discolouration, skin texture, facial scars, facial hair reduction), chemical peels ( done for hyperpigmentation, acne, acne scars ), threads ( non surgical face and neck lift as well as facial rejuvenation ), derma rollers ( for acne scars,  facial skin rejuvenation, skin tightening ), dermabrasion and microdermabrasion ( fine wrinkles, age spots, clogged pores, minor scars ), PRP ( for alopecia , facial scarring by promoting collagen production and tissue regeneration ), botox and fillers ( for wrinkles around forehead and eyes )and hair transplant are a few examples of the booming Indian health infrastructures. There is a long list of cities across India like Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune where hospitals are getting certified by national and international accredition or working with British and American health agencies to allay the doubts regarding quality of health care in Indian hospitals. Rajasthan is also growing as tourist destination of choice for its world class doctors, modern advance technology, its hospitals have carved out an outstanding reputation.

Liberal govenmental policies, supporting private and corporate sectors, have created an environment for rapid growth of medical tourism. To take advantage of its high growth potentials government has taken steps to target global health industry. Amalgamation of allopathy and other alternative system of medicine .ie. AYUSH ( Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy , Umami Sidha and Homeopathy) is also favouring India as spiced up destination.

For the nonce government needs to pull up its socks to crack quacks in the business. Even the beneficieries should be aware of certain disadvantages that procedures or therapy may get botched up and it would be difficult to compensate for that.

Time honoured tradition of incredible India is to welcome every one with open arms. It’s a common saying that travel broadens the mind and widens the horizon so come lets gift something to our visitors and nothing better than health with happiness…

Stay fit, stay healthy, stay young……
